4th of july

We waited for dark to start our fireworks this year.

Ha! Just kidding. Dark doesn't show up until about 10 pm these days and we are not that crazy brave.

Maybe when the kids are teenagers.

We were going for some tame firework fun which meant sparklers, poppers & flowers for us.

With a few baby fountains thrown in for fun.

I had the hardest time getting a good sparkler shot. The kids kept saying something about wanting to wave them around.

Lucky for me we saved a few and I'm going to try to talk Dave into helping me out tonight.

Maybe we'll even be super crazy and wait for dark.

Wooo! We're wild sometimes.

Last night we finally got some dusk light (which I helped along a bit in camera)

And now if you'll excuse me for a few days, I was a bit ambitious at the library this week.

Things I do instead of the internet #1

Since attempting to disengage from the internet a little bit more I've been reengaging in being a little arty.

Yesterday I went to a friend's house with some fellow crafty ladies. This particular friend is a painter who allowed us into her studio and gave us use of her supplies. She showed us amazing things we'd never dreamed of - like watercolor pencils and gauche paint. She showed us a lot of the artwork hanging in her home and told us about all sorts of different mediums.It was unbelievably fun. I cannot wait to paint again.

And last night I was at Emily's house and her house was decorated with a Valentine's day felt heart garland. I came home and made a couple for our house.

And then I thought, shoot, let's put some of this felt on some cards.

I've been limiting myself to what I already have on hand, no purchasing new supplies allowed. That little rule has been great on the ol' budget - but it's also opened up new things for me. Especially in the area of color. These colors for instance are not my traditional first choice (that orange has been sitting on my shelf for a while), but I've decided I really like them.

They're embarassingly simple I know. But shoot. That's the way I like things.
