Ellenism

Tonight Ellen and I had a rather serious conversation about people that made her nervous. One such person is "anyone tall. Like as tall as my bed."

"Really? Why do tall people make you nervous?

"Well. I'm worried they're just going to fall right over."

I'm afraid I laughed.

todays conversations

while on our walk this afternoon:

e: does santa live at the north pole?

me: that's what they say!

e: but does he?

me: what do you think?

e: why do you keep not answering?

me: (laugh...)

e: (a couple minutes later) so where does he live?

me: what do you think?

e: I think he's right next to me!

me: what? I can't see him! is he invisible?

e: no! he's pushing my brother!

(that would be me pushing brennan in the stroller)

me: (laugh laugh laugh)

Last year she was all about santa and buying into the whole thing hook, line and sinker even though the previous year we'd told her it wasn't 'real'. This year she wants the whole story.

On our way out to the car tonight Isaiah grabbed one of our Christmas CD's to listen to on the way to Fred Meyer.

I: Hey mom - who's this again? Ben Harper?

me: nope that's Bing Crosby buddy.

They look a little alike right? well at least they both have faces I guess.

In which Ellen notices Brennan's maturity

"Look! Brennan's acting like a grown up kid!"

The beginning of a career

So we've learned some things about Ellen in these five years she's been with us. The girl is a born entrepreneur. She loves to sell and she loves to delegate.

Yesterday she painted up some art work to sell and then went outside with her partner in crime to make some paper airplanes that people might want.

She's still working on her price base since some customers aren't quite sure the product is worth the fee, but she stands firm nonetheless. At this point in her career she has one main customer (aka her partner in crime) but last night she was asking us how she could attract more customers. We told her she might need to make some calls to some of her contacts and see if that might get the ball rolling. So if, in the near future, a young bright business women calls you up and wonders if you might like to buy an Ellen original or a paper plane perhaps, you'll know what to do.

(Buy people buy! Consider this an investment in her future career. Didn't Warren Buffet start selling sticks of gum when he was five?)

"for serious dude"

this is ellen's favorite thing to say lately and is used most often in conversation with Isaiah. She's quite happy to repeat it endlessly until the listener either breaks down in tears or is finally convinced that what she's saying is actually true.

tonight's dinner conversation

A couple of months ago we had some pushing trouble with Isaiah. We adopted a little mantra before we went to play with friends that went - "Are we going to push so and so? (Isaiah would nod) No. we're going to be gentle. Can you show me how to be gentle?" Ellen took it a step farther last night at dinner.

ellen: Isaiah, do you want to push?
isaiah: (nodding his head)
ellen: heck no!!!
isaiah: heck no!!! gentle!
ellen: Isaiah do you want to hit?
isaiah: (nodding his head)
ellen: heck no!
isaiah: heck no!!!!
ellen: Isaiah do you want to eat somebody?
isaiah: (nodding his head with eyes opened wide)
ellen: (giggling hysterically) heck no little brother. We don't eat people.

Ellen: "Mom can we go outside today?"

Me:"I don't know, lets go look on the computer and see how hot its going to be."

Ellen:"We need to check the earth?"

(earth=weather this morning)

Ellenisms

While walking down the street to a yard sale we saw some contruction equipment:
Ellen: "Mom!!! Look at those back hoes!"
Me: "Wow. Check those out."
Ellen: "Mom! Can I do that when I get older?"
Me: "Sure. How old do you think you'll need to be?"
Ellen: "Ummm. Maybe, maybe six forty-five."

When discussing sisters and brothers. (Ellen's been asking who her sister is.)
Me: "You have a brother. Do you like having a brother?"
Ellen:" No. I don't."
Me: "Really? What do you not like about having a brother?"
Ellen: "His shoes."
