Several months ago (at a local church's Easter Egg hunt of all places) Ellen acquired a butterfly net. All the kids have been trying to catch something ever since. Last week, they finally managed to net their first butterfly. Or Moth as I informed them when their excitement quieted down enough to hear.
They were very calm and careful with it.
It rewarded them by being very calm and quiet back.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a bee in focus? Especially with a manual focus macro lens?
It's hard.
Snails? Much easier.
Here's a nice peaceful, serene picture of snap pea tendrils clinging to their trellis. This should allow those of you with fears of things that crawl to click away now and leave this space with nice lovely thoughts for your day.
I'm not sure what about snap peas tendrils is peaceful and lovely, but they just are.

These guys are everywhere in the garden boxes.
I want to call them spiders, but I think technically they're not.
They remind me of miniature lobsters.
Little tiny brown lobsters that enjoy living in garden boxes.
The shyest of all the garden creatures I've encountered so far is this little lady bug.
(And that is totally how you spell 'shyest'. I looked it up.)
She ran around behind the stem,
And then hid behind another stem.
And then she just turned her back on me and waited for me to leave.
So I did.
I planted Arugula this year.
And then forgot about it.
Now it's gone to seed.
Or bolted.
Or flowered.
Or whatever.
I should probably harvest it.
There are ants on what I'm guessing are sunflowers which planted themselves last summer.
I think it's bad to have ants on your plants.
But I don't care.
(Just like I don't care that this picture has been cropped to much and isn't quite sharp enough.
I'm a rebel like that.)
I kind of like them.
Last week, for Groundhogs' Day (last week? two weeks ago?) we went got super crafty with our friends and made some puppets.

Finding the sweet spot with a macro is slightly challenging.
I find it works best to manually focus,
but still,
it's so hard to keep these little buggars still!
Fall is coming. Jackets were requested for tonight's walk.
The spiders not real crisp, but I loved the way he's hanging off his web. I tried to get a better one, but the kids thought they should impersonate the wind so he went scuttling away into the bushes. Ah well.
Saturday morning I woke up super early and couldn't sleep so I decided to go for a little walk.
My friend Megan and I used to wake up early every morning and walk, but it hasn't happened since the weather turned nice.
This particular morning I noticed this lovely lovely garden. Dave told me next year he wants one of the garden boxes for himself and I'm thinking maybe he could have the whole thing and I'll just take pictures of it.
Right next to that lovely whatever flower it was there was this pokey cactus. Talk about juxtaposition.
Look at this crazy bright caterpillar. I think a bird had seen him before me...lets just say he didn't look alive from the other side.
I can't decide - is this a face or a bum?
