Cool! I wish I had sulfuric acid just laying around the house so I could do this with the kids! I wonder if that's what those charcoal worms for the 4th of July are made of...?

The black snakes are made of something different. I looked it up on line and found a cool site where it explains how to make the snakes on your own. It didn't look too hard. You can heat baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) with sugar (sucrose) to produce carbon dioxide gas that puffs up black carbon ash.
