LA - installment 3 - or- the adventures of Katie the Caterpillar
Katie came with us on our road trip. She was a model traveler - we only had to stop to let her use the bathroom once. :)
Ellen took her everywhere and showed her to everyone who seemed at all interested.

Katie was a bit elusive sometimes and we really had to search for her.

Katie even had a chance to go swinging. Ellen informed me she preferred swinging to sliding.

We looked up "cutworm" on the internet and found that they burrow into the dirt to make their cocoon so Dad took Ellen out to get some dirt for her.
And while we were out there, we found another cutworm that had already cocooned.

Katie went with us lots of places that we didn't document. For instance, she made an appearance at Ellen Hale's memorial service where she was able to meet Joanne and Avis Beisner (who was much more interested in cutworms than I expected a 90+ year old lady to be), as well as lots of other Redeemer people. Katie wanted to go to the nature center with us, but we thought it might not be a good idea (maybe they'd think we were kidnapping her out of there?). She got to go to a Farmer's Market and the car wash and every night she slept on the floor next to Ellen's bed.
Katie did a great job on the way home as well and just this morning Ellen decorated her tub with loads of Easter stickers (Thanks Bryan and Kim!). Dave and Ellen filled up the tub with loads of grass and dirt so we're hoping she'll cocoon herself soon.
Yesterday Ellen left Katie at home while we went to church. She told me that now that Katie was getting older, it was okay for her to stay home by herself. Katie's growing up!
Ah, the adventures of Katie the caterpillar. I see a book coming from this :-)

Of my word... that is the cutest thing! I love the picture of her pushing Katie on the swing. I hope she turns into a beautiful butterfly.

That's awesome. Kind of reminds me of our house when we were growing up. We always liked the bugs.

Too funny. I am surprised how much that worm has lived through. I can't wait to see what happens with her next.
